I first met folk-rock superstar Al Stewart back in 2007 when he came into town to play at Club Passim in Cambridge. Randy told me all about his history with Al and how it was because of his discovery of Al’s music and album cover that he is now a photographer. With that kind of pretext, I, of course, had to meet him without any knowledge of his music or stardom.
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying more of Al’s shows in the Northeast and even one out at Sunset Center, Carmel by the Sea. It was during that visit, we visited his home in LA and my 2 seconds of fame photo was taken. Little did I know then it would be forever digitally etched in the PBS archives.
PBS station, WHYY in Philadelphia, broadcasted an interview with Al Stewart as part of ‘On Canvas, on Stage and Behind the Curtain’. A couple of Randy’s photos were used in the piece, at 12:17 from about 1978, and one at 24:30, with me (my 2 seconds of fame) watching Al as he decanted the bottle of wine (a 1990 Lynch-Bages) at his home in LA in 2011.
I’m so excited for Al to be interviewed for On Canvas. Randy has been telling him for years to do a PBS show and it has finally happened!
